Eric Wigginton

SOUTHERN INDIANA TIGERS: SPALDING UNIVERSITY

"I love it. I wouldn't change it for anything in the world."

In this episode of Tigers Alumni Player Spotlight Carter Mize chats with Eric Wigginton, a standout right-handed pitcher from Spalding University.

Hailing from Charlestown, Indiana, Eric is gearing up for his final season of collegiate eligibility in the spring of 2025.

“I've been at Spalding since my freshman year,” Eric shared. “Over these 3-4 years, I've improved so much mentally and physically. Our coaching staff and teammates constantly push me to be better. The strong culture here plays a huge role in our success and in winning so many games.”

The Spalding University baseball program, a Division III powerhouse, has solidified its reputation for excellence. The team captured back-to-back SLIAC conference championships and finished with an impressive 31-14 record in the 2024 season.

Eric’s journey to Spalding began with the Southern Indiana Rawlings Tigers, where he honed his skills during high school summer baseball.

“The Tigers program helped me face top-level hitters regularly,” Eric explained. “The competitive tournament schedule they put me through prepared me as much as possible for the jump to college baseball.”

Over his first three seasons at Spalding, Eric has logged 52.2 innings pitched. Reflecting on his development, he said: “I’ve learned that I have good stuff, and I can’t be afraid to trust it. Hitting is hard, so I go out there with confidence, challenge hitters, and see what happens.”

As he heads into his senior year, Eric has one clear goal: a third consecutive SLIAC title. “Winning is always fun,” he said with a smile. “We’ve had a ton of success in the past few years, and I’m hopeful we can keep that trend going with another conference championship.”

The entire Tigers community wishes Eric the best as he prepares for his senior season at Spalding. We’ll be cheering him on this February as the season gets underway!
