The cicada lifespan is kind of like my pro career.
Hello Tigers! Welcome to week 8 of the Rundown. Here's what to expect:
1. National Team Announcement- Tiger Players
2. The Ultimate Wingman. - Big 3
3. What's the Glove Doing?- Thoughts on the Scroll
Big Tiger Salute!
Before we start, the story of the week comes out of Cincinnati where a fellow travel baseball mom and their team's cars were broken into at their hotel.
This is the skinny from what we know:
We give a big Tiger salute to the Tiger team that stepped up in this situation. They took the core values and put them into action. They did the right thing when it comes to growing the game and providing support to a fellow parent and player even though they were on the other side of the field.
Another big Tiger salute to our Southern Indiana Director reaching out in the comments to provide additional support.
I love our players, parents and coaches. I love what were building!
1/ Their School Closed And They're In The World Series.
D3 school Birmingham Southern College which opened in 1856 have closed their doors this May. This is one of 20 schools shutting their doors in 2024 due to lingering costs from COVID-19.
Even though they're doors are closed they have one athletic team who is still playing. The Panthers baseball team punched their ticket to the World Series over the weekend. So they will be representing a college that is officially closed.
The creativity around prom usually deals with a poster, flowers, and maybe a teddy bear. A New Jersey teen took it to another level by knocking on Bryce Harpers door and convincing him to help him with his proposal.
Professional soccer is increasing in popularity in the United States. We can pin point the exact moment when the movement started with the USA Women's winning their first World Cup in 1991.
One interesting piece about soccer is that there are world rankings of professional leagues. Currently, the Major League Soccer is ranked 16th amongst the world. This had me thinking...baseball is a popular sport. What are our professional league rankings?
I couldn't find a dedicated website, but I found a reddit thread with all the leagues listed with their respected rankings. This listed included the MLB to the Series A League in Italy to the NPB (Japan League).
We're preparing for Cincinnati on July 31-August 4. More information will be released coming shortly for Mesa, AZ on September 20-22 and Surprise, AZ on October 18-20

I've been teaching infield for 10 years and have seen countless of players make the same mistake. I have also taken thousands of ground balls in my career and i've made this same blunder.
Here's the mistake:
Glove movement
Being intentional about how you move your glove while fielding a ground ball will be one of the most important aspects of successfully making a play. This is how my professional coach presented it to me:
"You like hitting?"
Of course.
"Do you move your barrel unintentionally before a pitcher releases the ball?"
No.
"Then don't do it with your glove when your about to receive a ground ball."
Take a look at the video above and you'll notice that each of these college infielders only move their glove to receive the ball. No extra movement.
